Billing & credits

Stripe billing, monthly AI credit pools, usage estimates, reset cadence, upgrades, downgrades, and cancellation.

Frostbyte uses Stripe for all paid-plan billing. You manage your subscription, payment method, invoices, and cancellation through Stripe's hosted portal. Frostbyte never stores or displays card details.

Accessing the billing portal

In account settings, scroll to Billing and click Manage subscription. Stripe's portal opens, where you can:

  • Update your payment method.
  • Change plan, up or down.
  • View and download past invoices.
  • Cancel the subscription.

The portal session is single-use. Closing the tab ends it, and clicking Manage subscription again opens a new one.

Upgrading

Upgrades take effect immediately. Stripe charges the prorated difference for the rest of the current billing cycle, and your new tier's features and limits unlock right away.

If you're hitting a hard limit, say a sixth project on Indie, the upgrade prompt deep-links to the plan picker so you don't have to navigate there yourself.

See Plans and limits for the tier comparison.

Downgrading

Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. Until then, you keep your current tier's limits and features. Stripe doesn't refund the unused portion of the higher tier.

If a downgrade would put you over a cap, say 8 collaborators dropping to a 5-cap tier, Frostbyte does not auto-remove members. You stay over-cap until you remove members or upgrade back. Being over-cap blocks new invites, not existing access.

Cancelling

Cancel from the Stripe portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle: you keep your paid features until the renewal date passes, then drop to Free.

If your account then exceeds Free-tier limits, the same rule applies: your data stays, new creates are blocked. To export first, see CSV import and export.

The AI credit pool

Frostbyte's AI features draw from a single monthly credit balance attached to the project owner's account. There's no separate usage bill, and collaborators working in a project use that owner's pool.

Tier Credits per month
Free 10
Indie 250
Studio 1,000
Enterprise Unlimited (no metering)

Credit use depends on the model and the amount of text processed. Frostbyte shows a typical estimate before each action and settles the balance to actual usage afterwards. Smaller jobs can come in under the estimate; larger ones can go over. If a request fails before the model processes anything, it uses no credits.

For what each action does and its typical cost, see AI overview. Your account settings show the current balance, typical costs, and the next reset date.

Credit reset cadence

The AI credit pool resets on a different cadence than your subscription:

  • Paid plans: the pool resets whenever your subscription renews, on your Stripe billing anchor. An Indie user who signed up on the 14th gets credits refilled on the 14th of each month.
  • Free plan: the pool resets on the 1st of each calendar month (UTC), since there's no Stripe anchor to follow.

Failed payments

If a payment fails, Stripe retries on its standard cadence: 3 retries over about 21 days. During the retry window, your account stays on its paid tier. If every retry fails, the subscription cancels and your account drops to Free at the end of the cycle.

You'll receive payment-failed emails, so the failure is never silent. See the FAQ on email notifications.

Invoices

All invoices live in the Stripe portal; there's no separate invoices page in Frostbyte. For Enterprise, custom invoicing is supported (PO numbers, billing contact, custom payment terms). Contact sales for setup.
